The First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue began in 1834 as a mission among
the Omaha Indians. Organized in 1850, it is the oldest
church in Nebraska. The original building, erected in 1858, is now an historic
site. The present building was dedicated in 1959 on a beautiful hilltop location.
In 1993, a new spire replicating that of the Old Church and containing
the original bell was added to the present church. Recently, we
celebrated 150 years as an
organized Presbyterian church. We are members of the
Presbyterian Church USA and the
Lakes & Prairie Synod. Our
mission links us to the past and leads
us to the future.
Presbyterians are
distinctive in two major ways:
-
They adhere to a pattern of religious thought known as reformed theology
which emphasizes God's supremacy over everything and humanity's chief
purpose as being to glorify and enjoy God forever.
-
Form of government that stresses active representational leadership of
both ministers and Church members.
