Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:14, 26-27

In one of Rev. Nieman's sermons, he talked about Full Bodied Ministry. His final words struck a chord:  "... God is also blessing us with the talents and skills to serve each other as members of the body of Christ. With such diversity of voices and talents, we can become one: the body of Christ united with the purpose of glorifying God through our worship and service."

I think that describes our congregation's mission accomplishments in 2009:

  • $36, 820 was donated (over 10% of our income) and
  • members of our congregation participated in community outreach projects such as assisting the Gurung family (a refugee family from Bhutan) by furnishing their apartment, and financial support; providing the worship service, music and dinner for Crossroads Connection on 5 occasions; assisting the Fellowship Committee with the garage sale and spaghetti dinner (both are mission fundraisers), celebrated Mission month in October which included collections for clothing, eye glasses, personal care products, and food, and a Sr. Help workday; and collected food for the Bellevue Pantry the first Sunday of each month.

These projects were possible because you were willing to use your talents to serve. The Mission Committee says "thank you!"

The mission committee has plans for a challenging and rewarding year in 2010. We have committed to providing the worship and dinner for Crossroads Connection on five occasions. Thanks to all who have provided salads and desserts in the past. We hope you will continue to support this program. Plans also include a Sr. HELP workday this spring and Mission Month in October.

Pastor Matt concluded his sermon by reminding us: "What part of the body are you? Without your voice or your gifts, we are not whole." In 2010, please consider how you can lend your voice and your gifts to glorify God through the mission outreach of our congregation.              ~Linda Fouts, Mission Chair
